VERBAL VIOLENCE IN CHARACTER EDUCATION AT ELEMENTARY COASTAL SCHOOLS Universitas Negeri Padang Abstract Character building values are part of the value education. Character building value will be successful if it can touch the moral feelings (moral filling) learners without any violence either physical or verbal. Thus learners are touched to change gently and humanely, so there is a desire to change towards the better coming from within the learners without any coercion. The reality of the field showed that the coaching done by the teacher was accompanied by shouting and harsh words. This phenomenon appears especially in the schools on the coast of Padang City. This article aims to analyze the forms of character building of learners accompanied by verbal violence in some coastal elementary schools of Padang City. The research approach used is qualitative method. Instrument of data collection through observation, interview and FGD. The research findings show that in the character building of students, the principals, teachers and education personnel in schools still display words containing verbal violence, such as moral emphasis using the word "animals", calling students with titles other than their names. The obvious impact of this way is the lack of respect and sympathy of the students to the teacher so that it is further away from the goal of character education Keywords: verbal violence, character building Topic: Virtues, Characters and Civic Community |
